Mark B. Greenspan

Rabbi Mark B. Greenspan served for four decades as a congregational rabbi, leading communities in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and New York. Following his retirement, he relocated to Seattle, where he embarked on a meaningful exploration of his Sephardic heritage. Rabbi Greenspan's maternal grandparents immigrated to the United States from Turkey, settling on New York's Lower East Side. Although his mother was born in the United States, Ladino was her first language, reflecting the family's enduring cultural roots. While Rabbi Greenspan was not raised immersed in Sephardic customs and traditions, he has long maintained a deep awareness of–and connection to–his Sephardic and broader Ottoman heritage. He is an active member of Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation in Seattle, a community whose founding members trace their origins to Northwest Turkey near the Sea of Marmara–the same region from which his grandparents emigrated.
